34 weeks pregnant with twins

August 19, 2013

Thank you thank you thank you for being understanding about my not having time/energy/full feeling in my hands to be able to blog lately. Truth be told, I have been so exhausted at the end of every day that blogging has been the last thing on my mind. I couldn’t leave you all without an update on the girls though, so here we are at 34 weeks!

34 weeks seems pretty huge to me (just like 32 and 30 did ;) ). At this point, whenever these girls decide to show up, my doctor will not do anything to stop labor. Also, babies born at 34 weeks generally do not have overall health problems in the long run (although may need some extra help the first few days/weeks they are born).

Weight Gained: Can you say fluid retention? Holy smokes. Since I went back to work last week, I have been retaining a lot of fluid in my legs, particularly in my ankles. I think at my appointment on Thursday I was up 38 pounds, but then I weighed myself at home on Saturday at was only up 34 (the swelling had gone down tremendously).

Also, at this point the girls are estimated to be about 5 & 1/3 pounds each (based on my last ultrasound) – that’s a lot of baby in me!

Symptoms: I’m feeling pretty much done at this point. I’m pretty sure this past week has been the HARDEST week of my pregnancy so far – and I’m also pretty sure that going back to work has a LOT to do with it. I really underestimated just how exhausting it would be!

Contractions: Holy contractions. In the last few days especially, they have increased in frequency and intensity. In fact, I was up Saturday night for hours with contractions that wrapped around to my back. I kept changing positions and finally went out into the living room to watch tv and try to sleep – and of course they went away. They definitely felt different than any other BH contraction I have had so far though!

Swelling: Like I said before, the swelling has been out of control. It went down this weekend because all I did was lay around as much as I could. I’m sure after a few days of working my ankles will disappear again. ;)

Nausea and Heartburn: I’ve been consistently feeling pretty nauseous the past few days and every time I eat I seem to get heartburn. Ouch!

Carpel Tunnel: Same as last week!

Overall feeling of irritability, crabbiness, and exhaustion. I’m a fun person to be around right now. ;)

Movement: These two are always kicking up a storm!

Food Cravings:  Nothing in particular

Food Aversions: Nothing in particular

Sleep: Sleep has generally been okay other than waking up 3-4 times a night to go to the bathroom!

Stretch Marks? The same little ones from last week – nothing new!

Miss Anything? Sushi, wine, sleeping on my stomach – same old!

Looking forward to: Meeting these baby girls!

Belly Button in or out? It’s hanging alllll out now.

Happy or moody most of the time? So so so so sooooooooooooooooo crabby. I honestly feel horrible for my family members right now – specifically my mom and John. They’re being troopers with my snapping at them for every single little thing lately. I know it’s hard for John to be patient with me when I’m a monster wife. He just nods his head, helps me up, and avoids me any other time at this point – ha!

New Baby Items: Nothing new!

Exercise: Ha.

I’m not going to lie – I’m hoping that labor will be imminent over the next week or two. I do want them to stay cooking as long as possible, but man oh man. I have a feeling I’ll go to 37 or 38 weeks just because I’m feeling so miserable at this point. ;)

Good luck with the last few weeks!!! My sister was in your boat last September and made it till 37.5 weeks…she ended up having them 4 days before her scheduled delivery date! However, now with these adorable little 11 month old twins, she doesn’t even remember what last year felt like at this time!!!!! Can’t wait to see pictures of these little girls - I’m sure they are going to be gorgeous!! :) Hang in there!!!!

You’re a rock star. It sounds like things are pretty darn uncomfortable, so I’m hoping labor comes for you soon, too! I remember at the end people telling me things like ‘sleep now!’ and I’d get so annoyed. I was so uncomfortable and was ready for sleepless nights with H on the OUTside instead of the inside. :)
Sending labor dust your way! (Not sure what that is, but evidently it’s a thing people say ;) )

Yay for a pregnancy update! You look gorgeous. Hang in there…I bet it’s over soon for you. I was having pretty intense contractions all weekend, as well - and some were a tiny bit painful, but nothing regular. Definitely different than the BH ones! Can’t wait to hear your news!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey August 19, 2013 at 7:29 pm

I was having regular contractions when I was hooked up for my non stress test today too - my doctor said I better call her if they intensify!

I don’t blame you a bit for being crabby! I remember at the end of all of my pregnancies being very irritable and I was only pregnant with one baby. ;-) You look beautiful, though!

Ummm, yeah you’re amazing. I’d say you have a pretty legit excuse to be crabby, especially since you’re working. If anything, working will hopefully help them get out sooner! ;)

Yay 34 weeks!!! It’s such a relief to hit that “doctors won’t stop labor” milestone. These are the hardest weeks, and you’re doing great! I can’t wait for you to meet your babies!

Everything you’re feeling is totally normal and justified!!! As I think I commented before, even though work is exhausting, I think it beats sitting around on the couch playing the waiting game.
Hang in there; it’ll all be worth it :)

You look great, but I am sorry that you’re so uncomfortable! I give you sooo much credit for going back to work — it’s exhausting being around a classroom of kids, even when you’re not pregnant!

Oh man. I’m with ya on the heartburn. It doesn’t seem to matter what I eat and BAM, burning! Tums are my best friend and worst nightmare. I hate the texture/consistency of them but they actually get the job done so I suffer through it. Keep holding strong, girl! Almost there!

You say, “Ha,” to working out but lets be honest… You’re teaching and on your feet all day with TWO baby girls growing inside of you. In my opinion, carrying around 30+ pounds while being on your feet is a workout in itself! And I have been getting heartburn lately for the first time ever, so I am so sorry to hear you’re having it a lot. It’s the worst pain!

Does it count if you’ve had a baby for almost 9 months and you’re still crabby? I swear I only am when I need to be (like getting a point across, or getting something to be done immediately). I hope these next few weeks (if you’re still pregnant by then!) fly by!

I’m so happy to see you smiling! It’s my youngest babes 4th Birthday today, I had swelling that made me be admitted for a week, it’s scary stuff, I’m sure it’s just being on your little feet with two pretty girls in your belly. We all can’t wait to meet Mommy Chelsea and her 2 girls, Congrats!! :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey August 19, 2013 at 7:37 pm

Oh it’s definitely just from being on my feet. In fact, today the swelling was much better than it was on Thursday and I was still about the same weight as I was on Saturday. Holding steady now, which hopefully means they’l come soon. ;)

If you don’t want to do tums, papaya enzymes are a great alternative for the heartburn! A doula friend and recent momma shared with me and I use them all the time. :)

So excited for your girls to make an appearance. Totally understand the taking a break from the blog thing. Especially with the hand issues, trust me I know. My little guy was two weeks old yesterday and although I’m finally starting to get the feeling back in my fingertips they are still tingling constantly. Can’t wait until that is gone completely!

Chelsey, you say that your bellybutton is hanging allll out now,but from your photos it sure doesn’t look like it.I hope you don’t mind me saying so,but when I see a pregnant belly the very first thing I look for and really want to see is a jutting(outie)bellybutton. Many moms-to-be feel that such buttons make their otherwise beautiful pregnant bellies unappealing, but that’s simply NOT true.If anything,a jutting bellybutton, especially one that’s quite large and waaaay out there, makes a big round protruding pregnant belly that much more appealing and pleasing to look at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
