chocolate peanut butter oatmeal

December 6, 2010

Before I revamped my diet, I was a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup addict. I would could easily put back an entire bag of mini’s without any help from others – and yes, that now makes me want to throw up a little. :)

Whatever the case may be, I loved all things Reese’s – mini peanut butter cups, holiday trees and Easter eggs. I can even recall how I would eat the original variety – nibble around the edges first, peel off the top, then the bottom, leaving just the peanut butter middle left.

Now that eating a Reese’s peanut butter cup doesn’t exactly fit with my beliefs about eating in general (or can I have them due to my dietary restrictions), I needed an oatmeal that would satisfy my recent chocolate cravings.

I think having all these sweets in the house is starting to make me go a little bit loopy – I didn’t eat any pumpkin for breakfast. Something is wrong with this picture.

December 5, 2010 003

No, that picture is supposed to be blurry. The picture I’m talking about is my mind not eating pumpkin – but that shall be fixed tomorrow… if I don’t eat this again.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup almond milk
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tbsp. flax
  • 1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. peanut flour
  • 1/2 banana, sliced thinly

Begin by placing all ingredients except for banana into a small saucepan. Stir until all ingredients have been combined. As oats are heating up, thinly slice bananas into the saucepan. Then, once the oats are at a rapid boil, stir with a fork or whisk rapidly, “whipping” the bananas into the oats. Add more liquid if your oats are not as creamy as you like (although I like mine REALLY creamy) or cook longer to absorb more liquid. Top with the following:

  • drizzle of maple syrup for sweetness
  • whole golden flax seeds for texture
  • spoonful of peanut butter (because what are oats without peanut butter?)

You can thank me later by sending me some vegan, homemade peanut butter cups.

Question: Are you a peanut butter cup fan?

You know, I never use to like PB cups and I’m still not sold, but I LOVE PB and Chocolate in Oatmeal. Weird.

That is weird! But I’ll take it!

I’m definitely a PB oats fan. Just whipped up a batch. Will need to try adding chocolate soon.

My husband would eat peanut butter cups for breakfast if I let him. I’m not such a fan of peanut butter. Really, the only time I eat it is for a pb&j sandwich. This may be blasphemy, but I don’t even like it in my oats.

Show me a person who couldn’t eat a whole bag of Reese’s minis and I will be astounded. Even though I’d be puking, I know I could handle the task :)

Reeses are my favorite candy. I used to eat the thick chocolate sides first and save the middle circle of peanut butter for last. I loved the commercials about “how do you eat your Reeses?”

I’d eat all around the top edge first on the originals. No idea why.
But I prefer the mini because of the superior chocolate to peanut butter ratio. And cannot keep them in the house because they’re like crack.
Yep. Still obsessed. :)
I do oatmeal like that, too- but with some protein shake mix that is chocolate flavored… fab.

The only acceptable thing to replace pumpkin with is chocolate and pb ha!! Love the recipe, I will be trying that. I am a huge reece’s fan. It is a problem and I just can’t keep them in the house or next thing I know they are gone!! Have a great Monday Chelsey!

Yay, you finally tried chocolate oats!! Aren’t they divine? As much as I love peanut butter I’ve never been a fan of Reese’s, weird huh?

P.S. I like that picture where everything but the bowl is blurry!

You had me at chocolate & peanut butter ;) Pretty sure that’s like the BEST combo ever. And I’m always looking for new ways to use peanut flour! That stuff is amazing! So protein packed :) YUM!

Oh I am the biggest pb cup fan! When I was in college I worked at planet smoothie and for my own pleasure I would make the PB&J but replace the J (strawberries) with chocolate syrup. Heaven :)

I knew I was a Reese’s PB cup addict when I realized I had my own strategy for eating them, too! It’s a sure sign. Glad I tamed that one before it got out of control :)

I’ve never had Reese’s PB cups because of my allergies. I wish they made a kind with almond or soy nut butter! Perhaps that’s something I should try to make. :D

I’m definitely not a fan of PB cups… I never really had the chocolate/PB combo until I came to America. Chocolate and caramel? Now that’s a different story! That said, your oatmeal looks amazing!!

Before I “revamped” my diet…I loved…
Actually I am pretty sure I’d love them today, too…

Reece’s Pieces.
But not a fan of the cup.

Maybe its cuz I am of the ET generation.
But man…those little andy covered reeces were always a big win with me.

I have no peanut flour so I just omitted it and mixed in the peanut butter at the end and it was AMAZING!!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!

This just gave me an excuse to go to TJ’s and get some peanut flour. Looks SO yummy! I, too, was a pb. cup addict. I now make my own. More fun, and tastier.

BTW- I am a new reader from Portland, OR. I found you through celery in the city. Well- though a link on her page and a link on the next page, of which I’ve already forgotten. I had a 3 year vegan binge when I was a teen (save the planet.. rawh rawh!), but now I eat mostly vegan, but by no means classify myself as one. Nice to have found you!

Hi Eleah – beautiful name!

I’m pretty sure all TJ’s are out of peanut flour. They discontinued it a while ago. However – you can buy it online!

Eleah April 10, 2011 at 12:42 am

I found that out when I went in today- oh well, never a bad reason to go to TJ’s. I’ll look around locally for it!
