afternoon achievements

January 6, 2011

Before I begin, I must forewarn all wives in the world. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, feed your sick husbands tomato soup. Apparently, tomatoes have a lot of acid. The soup won’t stay in his stomach long. Long story short, I suppose I am not as nice of a wife as I thought I was. Case in point, I made the Husband ralph. I wish I would have talked to my mom last night instead of this morning about the dangers of tomato soup.

I have a problem that I don’ t know how to fix. No matter what time I get home from school (anywhere from 4-5:30 depending on errands), I cannot sit still. I have  something against sitting down and relaxing before dinner. It’s a horrible hang up of mine, but I just can’t help it. There are things to be done around here, and I refuse to ignore them. If I ever sit down and relax before dinner, I always feel lazy. I’m weird — you can admit it with me.

Regardless of how tired I was when I walked through the door today, I had to keep moving until dinner time. The first thing I did was pull out my new hand weights (the orange juice is OUT) and shredded it up with Jillian. Workout? Done.

Leaving the house a mess is also something that irks me — I can’t do it. When clutter invades my life, clutter invades my brain and I can’t think. I got to work on cleaning up the invalid’s (read: Husband) mess from the day. It’s amazing how much damage a sick Husband and a puppy can do in one day.

Farewell thermometer that everyone thought was a pregnancy test….. twice.

Charlie also needed some exercise, so we went outside to play. When I say play, what I really mean is I “walked towards my dog and he ran circles for about 20 minutes straight”. There is nothing like a tired puppy to make your night enjoyable!

In everything I did when I got home, I think my greatest achievement this afternoon was my dinner.

I know, right?

Oven baked sweet potato, baked tofu, and sautéed spinach and tomatoes.

This was quite possibly the best baked sweet potato I have ever made at home. They are never quite as good as the sweet potatoes I get when I go out to eat. However, this sweet potato was the real. deal. The skin was crispy and the inside was so velvety that I didn’t need to dip it in any condiments (which is unheard of in these parts).

The Husband was also feeling up to a gourmet meal this evening — soup from a can because his wife’s makes him sick. Perfect.

Currently, I’m already laying on my bed and watching people get hit on the face and fall down on Wipeout — because watching people get hurt is oddly funny.  All of those chores when I got home made me sleepy.

Yes, that is my new bed for a while. I am determined not to get sick again!

Question: Are you “go go go” when you get home from work or do you relax?
