I am honored to have my first guest poster today — Lauren @ Lauren Loves Good Food. Not only does she always have something good to eat, but we also share the same sense of humor, which is why I love her so much. At least I know one person will laugh at my jokes (or lack thereof) daily. I’m taking the night off to spend some time with the Husband and eat at least 3 pounds of the 25 pounds of dark chocolate my students gave me for Valentine’s Day. Enjoy!
Hi everyone! I’m Lauren from Lauren Loves Good Food and I’m so excited to have this chance to write a guest post for Chelsey today.
If you’re anything like me you’re probably recovering from a Valentine’s Day sugar coma and are in need of something healthy, something without sugar, something made of whole wheat. Might I suggest some homemade ravioli? And before you tell me I’m crazy and click out of this page let me assure you that it’s EASY. And you’ll feel like an Italian god/goddess when you’re done.
First things first. Mix 2 ½ cups of flour (make it whole wheat, we all need our fiber) with 1 cup of hot water and mix.
Form into a ball with your hands and resist the urge to add more water. It will seem dry but it will all work out in the end.
Divide into two equal balls.
Now take one of the balls and roll it out. You’ll want it pretty thin.
Now pick a filling. I’ve tried mashed sweet potato and although it was extremely delicious I wanted to try something new so I steamed some spinach and threw it in the food processor with some goat cheese and had a bright and fresh looking filling in minutes.
Now roll out your other ball of dough and layer it over the other piece. Seal the edges and press the dough together around the little mounds of filling.
Now pull out your ravioli cutter. What, you don’t have one? Okay, me neither so grab a glass.
And get to cutting out those little raviolis.
Don’t worry if they don’t all come out perfectly round. That’s what we call character.
Now put the raviolis in a pot of water and bring to a boil. The raviolis will float when they’re done so drain them and eat ‘em up. Oh and be careful when you take them out of the pot, they’re delicate and you don’t want them to ripe open!
Enjoy!
Thanks again Chelsey
Hope to see some of you at Lauren Loves Good Food!
Thank YOU Lauren! I’m hoping to see her in my kitchen whipping these up tomorrow — a girl can dream, right?
Question: Have you ever made homemade pasta? Was it a success or a failure?

I’ve never made my own pasta, but Lauren made it look so easy, I just might give it a try!
I make this almost exact same meal for my valentines meal. once you get into the swing of it and have your own factory going. Its really fun to make your own parcels.
hehe…I can tell you two have a similar sense of humor already! love it.
Thank you both for sharing! I had never given making my own ravioli a thought, but after this I’m realizing that’s a mistake.
I’ve made homemade pasta and would love to make it again! This is so creative, I love it!
I have NEVER tried homemade pasta! I will have to try a gluten-free version of this!
I haven’t ventured to make my own pasta yet. My aunt did a few times and it was delicious. I’ll have to snag her recipes.
Those are SO cute!!! LOVE THEM LAUREN!!!
I’ve made homemade whole wheat pasta before; it tasted SO good!
Love the guest post Chelsey!
Happy Valentine’s Day! <3
Oh my goodness, this all sounds so good!
Way to go Lauren!
I’ve made homemade pasta before, including linguini, ravioli, and gnocchi but I had a professional chef teach me…I’m scared to try on my own!
nevere tried homemade ravioli but it is on my to do list…eventually
What a fantastic concept!
Wow! That looks super easy! Who knew? Definitely will try this!
Homemade wholewheat spinach ravioli? Count me in! Thanks for showing how easy it can be!
OH MY GOSHHH. Healthy ravioli. Yes
Well, your recipe for english muffins sure did turn out fantastic, so I’m thinking this ravioli is next on the menu.
Especially since it seems so simple!
I’m glad you liked the english muffins!
Really? That’s it? Wow, who knew homemade pasta could be so easy?! It’s always been intimidating to me. Thanks for the how-to!
I’m pretty impressed too! I’ve never tackled it because I thought it was so hard!
I was in a cooking class that made pasta, but it was a lot of work and a lot of mess! You did a great job on this!!
the thought of making home-made ravioli definately would have scared me off before, but this looks like a piece of cake! Thanks for the post Lauren and I’ll be sure to check out your blog
I love it! You make it look so easy!
I might have to they this!
Gosh that is impressive…I do love raviolis, I’d rather have pasta than candies, actually! What kind of sauce did you like with it?
I can ask Lauren what sauce she made, but I think any kind of sauce would go well with spinach ravioli - tomato, cream, olive oil, pesto
Sophia, I used a tomato sauce but I agree with Chelsey. Anything would be good!
Making homemade pasta has always been intimidating to me, but Lauren makes it looks so easy! One of these days I will muster up the guts to give it a shot!
I made homemade ravioli in my food science lab once, but I’ve never tried it at home. You make it look so easy!
PS. I’ve never seen your blog before, but I’m going to have to mosey on over there and check it out.
OH MY GOSH! YUMYUMYUMYUM!!!!! i once made homemade pasta in Italy- totally authentic experience.. i was at a random italian families house in the countryside making pasta and eating grapes on their vineyard.. all for a school trip! SO AMAZING
OH MY GOSH! YUMYUMYUMYUM!!!!! i once made homemade pasta in Italy- totally authentic experience.. i was at a random italian families house in the countryside making pasta and eating grapes off the trees in their vineyard.. all for a school trip! SO AMAZING
Wow they look awesome! I love the spinach/goat cheese idea!
My sister studied abroad in Italy and brought back a pasta recipe- so I make homemade pretty often now. It’s a killer arm workout! But totally worth the satisfaction of having a completely homemade meal- especially if you make your own red sauce
Those look sooo great! I’ve never made homemade pasta before but this post makes it look manageable! I have been on a goat cheese kick lately so I may have to try these!
Those look awesome. We used to make our own pasta at home when I was little and it was always so much fun!
Any time I imagine the process of making ravioli (which isn’t that often) I always thought it would be extremely elaborate and difficult. Obviously I was wrong because I’m 99.9999% positive even I could do this. Cool.
I’ve never made homemade pasta before and I’m not sure if I ever will. I loooove making homemade things (juice, nut butter, bread, whatever) but mainly for things I eat a lot of. I’m not a huge pasta person. It does look good though!
You made ravioli look so easy to make:)
I will have to try this sometime!
