active by old navy

January 10, 2013

Ever since starting to read The Happiness Project, I have been trying to be no nonsense about getting things done. I’ve been loving the one minute rule, the 10 minute de-clutter rule, and another one of her mottos that I love is: “Act the way I want to feel.” And one thing I want to feel right now is motivated and fit. I mentioned yesterday I was up for my 4:30 wake up call to head to the gym in the morning, and I’m happy to report I did the same thing again yesterday. I also like the motto “fake it ‘til you make it!”. I figure if I put energy into feeling energized and good about working out and staying active, I’ll actually feel energized and good about working out and staying active. Does that make any sense at all or have I just talked myself in a circle?

Regardless, recently I was given the chance to try out Active by Old Navy. I’ve always coveted the Old Navy active line when in the stores, but other than a pair of capris I bought about seven years ago, I hadn’t bought anything from their active line since. Let me tell you, in the last year or two, Old Navy has completely revamped their active line. They have compression gear, fantastic yoga gear, and the best part is that all of the clothing is cute and stylish.

I had a hard time picking out what I wanted to buy with the gift card I had. I picked out about 15 items (no joke), and I headed to the dressing room to see what I couldn’t live without (read: everything). I had to use a lot of constraint in order not to spend my life savings on an entirely new workout gear wardrobe.

I ended up loving the Women’s Active Compression Jacket in Retro Violet. I do a lot of walking outside during the winter months, and this is a great piece to layer with another long sleeved shirt or my fleece jacket. The best part about this is not only that it is pretty form fitting and flattering, but because it has thumbholes! I live for thumbholes. They seriously can make or break a zip up or sweatshirt.

I also fell in love with the Striped Bubble Active Tank in (big surprise) Retro Violet. I really like this tank because it is not skin tight. My stomach is nothing to show off these days, so having the extra material to work with is a life saver. The tank also has a back design that’s I’ve never seen in any other tanks on the market.

The last piece I bought were the Women’s Bootleg Compression Pants. Again, these are perfect for the winter. They’re reversible (one side has a purple waist band, the other side is plain black) and definitely long enough for this 5’8” lady. The waistband is also fairly thick and the rise is just below your belly button.

I took my new gear out for a spin yesterday morning for my treadmill interval session at the gym. Everything stayed right in place where it was supposed to. The thing I hate the most about some workout gear is the constant pulling up, pulling down, and wondering if your clothes are going to fail you. With this outfit, I didn’t have to worry about that. All of this gear stretches to fit your body and has GoDry moisture-wicking technology. I worked up a sweat, but I still felt cool and my clothes weren’t wet. I ended up my workout session with some planks and called it a day.

The best part about the Old Navy line is it is now 40% off through January 16. I was able to buy this entire outfit for just over $50. The tank itself was only $10! I’d say that’s a good deal if you ask me. If you haven’t tried Old Navy’s Active line yet, I’d say now is the best time to try it out. I’m already looking forward to my next workout (where I am going to re-wear this outfit obviously!).

*Old Navy graciously gifted me with a $50 gift card to buy this gear and they are compensating me for writing this post. All opinions are my own.

I love the Happiness Project too, especially the 1-,minute rule! It’s been awhile since I read it, but I decided to bring the 1-minute rule back into action for 2013. So far, so good, and it’s amazing how much cleaner my house is!

I’ve seen a bunch of posts about this new line but you’re the first to show the bubble top. Love it, especially the back. I tried to order some online but they are out of basically everything in my size. Grump.

Old Navy does have some really cute workout clothes. I love that they try to resemble LuLu but with MUCH more affordable prices.

I love that tank and how the straps cross in the back. There is nothing more annoying than an article of clothing that gets in your way during a workout. This tanks looks like it would be a great, no-nonsense addition to my workout gear collection.

P.s. Awesome job of waking up EARLY to workout! You are far ahead of most of the rest of us! ;)

I looked at their site, and didn’t realize how inexpensive their clothes are! I guess I had forgotten that, since it’s been awhile that I’ve shopped there.

Ah I love thumbholes so much. I am also 5’8 so I am super picky about things being long enough for my long torso and legs. That zip up is adorable and I am about to click on over to the Old Navy website!

I love that tank! I always love reading your clothing reviews because we’re the same height and I’ve always, like you, struggled with finding tops that are long enough and don’t ride up while working out.

Love that shirt! I get so mad at all the super tight workout tanks!

Kelly @ Femme Fitale January 10, 2013 at 4:28 pm

Love the look of the compression jacket.

Now will come the true test- clothing longevity! I find that I keep going back to Lululemon because it’s the only brand that seems to hold up forever….we’re talking years (no fading, pilling, stretching, etc). Do you find the Old Navy line stays durable and holds its shape for a long time?

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey January 10, 2013 at 5:22 pm

I still wear the capris I bought 7 years ago to work out. ;)

I have been reading a lot about this workout line and will definitely check it out! I love old navy clothes- I still have a performance fleece from like 10 years ago and it’s in great shape haha.
I am a fellow clean eater, avoid anything artificial at all costs and am constantly seeking fitness motivation to keep on track! I’m over at SoFitandSoGreen.blogspot.com if you want to come by.
Can’t wait to read more of your blog- I’m loving it so far!

Oh man, I went there yesterday and snagged the cutest clover green 1/2 zip Active top, SO CUTE! I really am impressed with the quality and that 40% sale was rad! Thank you for the heads up!

I have that same top and love it! Plus I got it in 2 more colors haha, oops? :D I did have kind of a weird question for you… What sports bra are you wearing with it? I usually wear basic racer back type sports bras but with the way the straps kinda come in at the top on the front of the shirt, my bra straps are always showing & it drives me nuts!

I got a pink tank top that cinches at the bottom and some pants for Christmas and the top is perfect for running. I can run with confidence and not worry about my tummy popping out. I will have to check out some other pants there too. Love Old Navy.

Good post. I learn something new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon
everyday. It will always be helpful to read through content from other authors and use something from their sites.
