35 weeks pregnant with twins

August 26, 2013

Still here, still pregnant. ;) I realize I should probably check in for you all a little more often these days. I had a request to put up an occasional “still pregnant” post just so some don’t feel the necessity of checking my site all the live long day. I promise I will let you know when these two decide to come! This past week has its ups and downs for sure, but I feel like I’m in a better mood than I was one week ago. I feel so so blessed to have already made it 35 weeks (almost 35.5!). As my cousin, who is a L&D nurse, keeps telling me – every day they’re in right now is 3 days less NICU time! I’m all for that!

Let’s get to it!

Weight Gained: I’m hugging 39-40 pounds right  now. That’s a 6 pound increase since last week, and I’m bringing it up to my doctor today. It’s all fluid, but with some of my other symptoms lately (see below) it could be cause for concern.

Symptoms: Exhausted!

Contractions: Just like last week, my contractions have become increasingly more frequent and intense. Nothing is consistent though! These two ladies are mighty comfortable in there apparently.

Cramping: I wasn’t sure if I should include this into contractions or not because I’ve been cramping continuously (mainly today) even when I’m not contracting. Puhhhleeeease let this mean they will come soon. ;)

Swelling: The swelling is still horrible – even more so than last week. It’s mostly confined to my feet and legs, but my hands are starting to become swollen as well. It used to be just bad when I was on my feet a lot, but it doesn’t seem to go down even when I’m resting these days. I went to my goddaughter’s birthday party at a Gymboree on Saturday afternoon, and we had to wear socks to be in the play area. My socks would barely fit on my feet AND when I took them off, the logo of the sock brand was imprinted into my feet for about an hour. It was pretty funny!

Babies Dropped: I was actually arguing (like yelling – not my finest moment) at my sister and mom last week (on our way out of church of all places… haha I’m horrible) telling them that there is NO WAY I could drop because the girls are so low already. Uhhhhh, I would be wrong on that one. ;) I admitted my faults to my mom because these two are so much lower than they were before. Hooow?!? How does that even happen?

Carpel Tunnel: Same as last week!

Borderline High  Blood Pressure: Last week at my Thursday appointment, my blood pressure was borderline high at 140/85. They made me go back Saturday for another reading, and it was a little lower at 130/80 – but still not as low as they’d like it. It will get checked again at my appointment this evening, but it makes me nervous that it could be the beginnings of pre-eclampsia (because of the swelling as well). I’m grateful my doctors are keeping a close eye on me!

Movement: These two are always kicking up a storm!

Food Cravings:  I want comfort food, namely Italian. I actually made these to eat for dinner tonight. I snuck a bite when they came out of the oven, and they’re DELICIOUS!

Food Aversions: Nothing in particular

Sleep: Sleep has been tough this past week. I was exhausted every day because of work, but staying asleep seemed to be a problem. I would wake up with intense contractions almost every night (that went away of course ;) ) Last night was such a good night’s sleep though. I was so grateful!

Stretch Marks? A few new small ones by my hip bones. I feel like now that the girls have dropped and are still growing exponentially, I might be in for it these next few weeks!

Miss Anything? Sushi, wine, sleeping on my stomach – same old!

Looking forward to: Meeting these baby girls! Everyone has bets going on for when these two are going to come. The Husband told me it would be most convenient for him for them to come this Friday. ;) Whatever makes him happy, right? hahah! Friday actually would be quite freaky as it is the day I dreamed I would have them!

Belly Button in or out? I don’t even think my belly button exists anymore!

Happy or moody most of the time? I want to say that I was a little better this past week in the moody department, but I can’t be too sure. I definitely put on a happy face at school, but the week really wore on me by the end of it. I had a breakdown on Saturday morning when one of the doctors in my practice I go to wouldn’t write me a note to stop working. If my favorite doctor in the world doesn’t write me one tonight, I’ll be back to work tomorrow.

New Baby Items: Nothing new!

Exercise: Someone pointed out last week that I “laughed” at this question, but in reality I was on my feet all day long teaching kids while carrying an extra 30+ pounds. Dually noted!

I’m interested to see if these two decide to make their appearance any time this week or not. I am convinced they will be August babies, but my mother in law is certain they’ll be September babies. Only time will tell!

Oh my, that WOULD be crazy if they were born on Friday! I guessed that date too! ;) Cody kept telling me when it’d be most “convenient” for him for Hunter to be born too, and his wish actually came true!

Oh the dropped baby …. Emmie was already dropped by 36 weeks and I call that amazing feeling “lightning vag”. It’s terrible. It feels like they should just fall out at that point ha.

Glad your doctor’s are keeping a close eye on you!

YES for exercise because you’re a working mommy-to-be carrying what those in the workout community would be considered a weighted vest. Lol I really hope things are okay at your appointment tonight and your blood pressure evens itself out. What exactly is pre-eclasmia?

Here’s some info:

http://www.preeclampsia.org/

I was actually sent to L&D yesterday to get labs done and am in the process of doing a 24 hour urine sample collection just to be on the safe side. My labs came back great so I was sent home at midnight last night!

shame on that doc for not writing you a note to stop working. i am a teacher too & my goodness, it’s exhausting all.the.time. not to mention when you are far along in a pregnancy with TWINS! well, i hope your favorite doc takes care of that for you tonight so that you can take it a little easier during this rather important time. wishing you luck!!

I hope that letter got written for you!! My girl came on a Friday, so hopefully your girls do too…especially if it’s convenient for the hubby haha. My hubby coaches golf kids on the weekend, so he cancelled the one on Saturday, but ran the one the Sunday after Nia was born and I don’t know how he did it. I think a lot of caffeine was involved that morning haha.

I was sent to L&D yesterday for my BP and contractions - labs looked good and contractions decreased in intensity after getting some IV fluid. I ahve to follow up in my dr’s office today. I forgot to get a note from her yesterday so I’ll have to get one today!

So since you are craving Italian food AND want the babies to exit, I’ve read that eating eggplant parmesan allowed women to go into labor within 18-72 hours after the meal! It’s something in the eggplant. In fact, some restaurants scattered around the USA actually market the fact that their eggplant parm induces labor! Maybe there is a restaurant that has such in your neck of the woods. Hey, it’s worth a try!

Ah! So close! You can do it!! And seriously you look amazing. I am convinced I will not look half that good with only one child at a time when that time comes.
My mom’s BP got really high with all three of her pregnancies. With my sister (the last one) it got so high they induced her at 8 weeks early! It’s awesome how medicine is so advanced that we can do things like that and the babies are just fine! Love it.
I’m crossing my fingers that these girls come sooner than later! Good luck!!

You seriously look so good for having twins in there girl! You have rocked pregnancy, almost time for no more bump! It is really weird too when that bump disappears, you will understand! You are just so used to it and then poof it’s gone!

Thinking of you! Rocco wants to meet these girls, haha! <3

Im new to your sight. found you in one of my searches late last night wondering if anyone else was surviving a twin pregnancy working full time!! Im an assistant principal in a k-8 school and staff and students came back almost 2 weeks ago. Im feeling your pain but I am at 30 weeks and wondering how im going to get through the next 8??! My symptoms are exactly what you’ve been experiencing- lots of contractions, cramping, swelling, exhaustion… you look fantastic and cant wait until you post again!
