I am guest posting for Courtney over at Sweet Tooth Sweet Life today! It’s all about unplugging – go read it and take a peak around! You’ll love Courtney (if you don’t already!).
I remember a few weeks ago when I went to Six Flags with my bestie how excited we were to get there. We hadn’t been to the amusement park to ride roller coasters since we were in high school and couldn’t wait to jump on the first one. Well, we rode them… and got through, and while it was fun, it surely didn’t live up to our expectations.
I feel like I somehow hype up certain places or situations in my head only to find out (in Gabriela’s words) they are anti-climactic.
I surely don’t think that anything in New York has been anti-climactic as my tour guide has described! I have loved seeing all of the sights so far, even if my poor feet are taking quite the toll from walking around the past two days.
This morning, after I leisurely rolled out of my air mattress, we had quite the day planned! It was filled with working out at Gabriela’s gym, breakfast, and then we were off on our day trip to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
I was pleasantly surprised at how cost efficient the trip over was – $13 to see both of those sights seems fairly cheap to me. I couldn’t complain, unlike the folks who were forced to leave since the credit card machines weren’t working. That would put a damper on anyone’s day.
The line to get onto the ferry was pretty long – we waited about 45 minutes to get onto the boat. In the line, Gabriela and I talked about how we didn’t see what they meant by it being super hot and humid today – the breeze off the river was quite pleasant!
On the way over to see the Statue of Liberty, it was really difficult to get any sort of good shot of the city behind us since the gobs of people surrounding us all were trying to do the same. However, once we got to our destination, that was a different story.
Please excuse my sunglasses – I seriously feel like I look like a bug with them on. Note to self, buy new ones!
And this was about the time where we ever regretted saying it “didn’t feel hot outside” – because holy Hades, it was hot.
I wish I knew these people, but I don’t – I do know they were like the cutest couple in the world. I also kind of wish they someday stumble across this picture.
Being at Ellis Island was surreal. You forget just what people had to endure to get into the United States as immigrants in the early 1900’s. It was much larger than I had anticipated, and I really enjoyed looking through the exhibits.
One of my favorite displays was right at the entrance of the main hall – there were displays of different baskets and trunks families came over from their homelands with. I was fascinated by the artifacts!
I also found some of my parents’ ancestors last names on the wall, but I have to confirm if they are actually our family or not!
Since Gabriela and I worked so hard all day, we figured we earned quite the treat for a late lunch somewhere that is never anti-climactic.
Now that I have been to 3 different Whole Foods in the city of Manhattan, I figure it is only right for Gabriela to bring me to a fourth one tomorrow. I filled up my salad bar box with all kind of goodies, but the item that stuck out to the both of us was the roasted cauliflower – it was so delicious. I only wish I would have seen the hummus because my salad would have been topped with quite a bit of it!
Whole Foods never tastes as good without a Kombucha to wash it all down!
We opted to walk back from Whole Foods even though our feet were hurting us quite a bit and the heat was pretty intense.
You better believe it wasn’t anti-climactic when we felt that air conditioning when we walked inside either!
Question: Have you ever had an anti-climactic experience? Keep it PG folks.

Looks like you are having such a blast up in NYC! I’m jealous!
I think the most anti-climactic experience I have had was actually starting college. I had this entire big idea of what it would be like, but when I started, it really didn’t live up to my expectations! It wasn’t at all like the movies (granted I didn’t really like my first school, but still!). Another anti-climactic experience was when I went to France in high school. I was so excited to see the Eiffel Tower but when I turned the corner and saw it for the first time, my only thought was “Oh, that’s it?” Haha. Yeah, I’m lame.
But you know what isn’t anti-climactic? Seeing Stonehenge for the first time. Now that was awesome!
::gasp:: Seeing the Eiffel Tower in person made me tear up! I honestly looked at my mom and said “thank you for making one of my dreams come true!!!”
I thought Stonehenge was “meh” – guess we’re opposites!
I’m loving getting to experience NYC through your posts! It looks like you’re having a great time!
Wedding dress shopping was actually anti climactic for me. I blame Just Say Yes to the Dress.
Yup, I agree. Wedding dress shopping was NOT enjoyable.
I loved wedding dress shopping, but it wasn’t the “tears and overjoyed” feeling I thought it was. I put on the dress and thought “yup, this is it!”
I hope to someday visit New York! It looks amazing!!!!
I can’t think of one in particular, but I find a lot of movies are anti-climactic…most of the good parts are shown in the trailer and then the rest of the movie is blah. Hate when that happens!
I am ashamed to say that I grew up in NY and have never been to Ellis Island! Anyway, I thought that reading Little Bee was anti-climatic. I heard such great things about it and was pretty disappointed when I read it because I was expected it to be much better. I liked it…but it was definitely over hyped, in my opinion.
I liked Little Bee, but I guess it was way too depressing for my liking!
Boy am I jealous! I live in Massachusetts and I’ve never visited NYC. And four different Whole Foods?!?! I think I’ve only been to three different ones in my whole LIFE!
Also, I apparently need to get on this Kombucha train.
Seeing the Coloseum was awesome, but it just wasn’t everything I heard it was. I hope that doesn’t sound snooty. Seeing the Trevi fountain though, THAT was awe-inspiring.
I am totally opposite – I thought seeing the Coloseum was amazing, and Trevi Fountain didn’t do much for me
so glad you girls are having fun and doing a lot! Love the whole foods, 3 different ones?! How awesome!
I bought gingerberry kombucha today! Love that flavor!!!
I feel like I am always saying, “well that was anti-climactic,” but now that I have to remember a specific instance I can’t. Go figure. Disneyland is never anti-climactic for me. No matter how old I am
you guys are so cute on ellis island! i’ve lived in ny for my entire life and have never done touristy things haha i think i’ve only been to central park like once or twice! i know major fail.
I hate when you talk things up in your head and then they don’t live up to your expectations. This happens a lot to me with certain restaurants. I read such rave reviews and go into them expecting greatness. Then, I’m usually disappointed.
PS- Have to tell you, I’m currently eating “your dessert!” Apple, Raisins, Granola and Almond milk. Totally channeled you tonight.
yaay! Isn’t it delicious?
I went to three different whole foods in the past three days too. No shame.
And you’re right….kombucha is probably the best ending possible after eating at whole foods. I love the multi green one! Never had the ginger berry though!
What an awesome day! I would love to visit Ellis Island! Also I love your stalkerish shot of that couple LOL!
I found prom to be sort of anti-climactic. After I left I couldn’t help thinking “So… that’s it?”
Okay you chose a great example for something to be anti-climactic. My mind is NOT thinking PG right now.
Ohhhh lawd, I LOVE Ellis Island. The Statue of Liberty wasn’t quiiiiite what I was expecting, but regardless I loved seeing it. The artifacts are my fave too!
Most touristy things to me are super anti climatic
And also sometimes making big ticket or bigger ticket purchases are anti-climatic…like I really want the item and then it’s like really? this is ‘it’? can be a little…meh.
I’m going to answer with “my life” on this one lol
I’m so glad your having a fantastic time in New York! I hope to go sometime. 4 Whole Foods in one city is a dream come true!!
When I lived in NYC, I had a ranking for all the Whole Foods. My number 1 was Columbus Circle – have you been to that one yet? Followed by the monster store in Tribeca. It’s easy being vegan/gluten-free in the city. Enjoy the good eats!
I went to Ellis Island forever ago (I think I was in 6th grade) & it was seriously one of the most fascinating places ever!!!
I found your site from Courtney’s! Great guest post!
