Please tell me you have watched the show on the Food Network called “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”. It’s all about different chefs and TV Food celebrities that talk about well, the best thing they ever ate (obviously). Some of the food they talk about make me want to go get a triple bypass after watching it, but I feel like after my meal tonight – I want to, no I NEED to be on that show.
Gabriela made a reservation at Pure Food and Wine a few weeks ago as she has done nothing but rave about their food and desserts. I was honestly really impressed by the ambiance the restaurant gave off the second I walked through. Dim lighting, plush seating – it was really comfortable yet elegant at the same time.
Theodora joined us tonight! We both agreed it was a nice change to our “twosome” we have had going for the last couple of days. I absolutely adored her company today – she (like every other blogger I have ever met) is so sweet and really easy to talk to. The conversation never stopped this evening. The three of us had a great time getting to know each other better.
But back to that whole “the best thing I ever ate” thing.
It started with a Pure Mojito – which was filled with sake, mint, and sweetened with agave nectar.
I kind of wanted 2 or 3 of these, but since they were $12 each, I made myself stick to one – and well, you never want to look like a lush on your first date with another blogger.
For my dinner, Theodora and I both went with the Raw Zucchini and Heirloom Tomato Lasagna, which came highly recommended by Gabriela.
It surely did not disappoint. In between the tomato slices was pumpkin nut cheese, pine nut pesto, and marina sauce – along with other thick tomato slices. The portion seriously packed a punch. I was very surprised after I finished as to how full I actually was.
(::Caution:: bloggers in action)
Would you believe it when I tell you that’s not really the best thing I ever ate? Oh no – that came far later in the meal. You see, for months now, Gabriela has been taunting me with this talk of the best vegan ice cream dessert in the world. I didn’t believe her… until tonight.
The both of us both ordered the mint chocolate sundae. It was filled with vegan ice cream, loaded with soft vegan chocolate chunks, and topped with a cashew whipped cream.
I am not kidding you when I say I would give up my left (or right – not both) to eat this sundae every day of my life. It really is that good. I am basically in mourning right now and I am sad I already wore my black dress during this trip.
Let’s have a moment of silence for the sundae please.
Thank you.
After dinner, the three of us headed to Rye, a bar which Theodora suggested.
We each got a drink and proceeded to have a deep discussion, particularly surrounding dogs. I may or may not have shown off a picture (or two) of my Charlie.
I enjoyed a glass of the Quivira 2009 (Sauvignon Blanc).
I was sad the night was over, but I am far more than ready to go to bed. It has been quite a long day, and I have another exciting one planned for tomorrow!
It might start with plotting how I can eat only desserts the entire day.
Question: What would you talk about if you were on the show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”?

I would probably choose the black bean burger (and fries) from a restaurant called Altitude in Flagstaff, Arizona. I am obsessed!!
I love that show! I really like a sushi place called Tegry Bistro, located in two Indianapolis locations. I was afraid of sushi before I tried it here, but now I get avocado sushi (sometimes with a ginger salad, vegetarian fried rice, or edamame) at least once a week!
In the past few weeks I’ve had two wonderful meals-one was baked scallop sushi and a dish called uptown shrimp and the other was creamy lobster and corn chowder and a strawberry balsamic salad. So none of that was vegan but am sure I could be in love with that sundae mint chocolate chip is one of my favorites!
Ah, I’m just catching up on your posts and this looks like so much fun!! And that dessert? Looks out of this world!
I’m flipping out right now because of two things 1) those drinks & dishes look amazing, and I WANT THAT DESSERT!!! 2) I LOVE that show and literally just wrote a blog post about it–actually I think it’s in tomorrow’s post, so check it out! Since you’re in NYC, you’ll be able to stop by my mention! =)
Wow that looks awesome and Pure is on my life’s bucket list. I MUST go there now, for sure!
pure is on my list, glad you enjoyed it.
Okay, I was jealous before but now I’m EXTREMELY jealous! LoL. Pure Food is one place I must try before I die. Looks INCREDIBLE!
oh I love that show! I’d have to say my best meal would have to be france at a little mom and pop place tucked away on the southern coast. But no good meal is complete without good company, right? looks like a great night!
Wow, that dessert looks amazing! I’ve been addicted to making myself berry mango ice cream for breakfast lately. It’s just 1 cup frozen berries, 1 cup frozen mango and 1 cup non-dairy milk. I use a tamper with my vitamix and the mixture is the same consistency as ice cream! Top it off with goji’s and coconut and I’m in HEAVEN!
oh what a fun (and delicious) night out!
LOVE that show! …….And I just caught your recent episode (hahahehe) and thought it looked DE-VINE! …..My episode is filmed on Long Island at Satellite Pizza! …..Oh. My. Goodness. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR- Ahhhhhmazing!
Ahhh love that show!! I think I’d need categories to choose mine though, because I love way too many foods. The ice cream looks uh-mazing!! Must get to NYC!!!
I would probably talk about this amazing gelato I had in Toronto….o my gosh
homemade mint chocolate and raspberry…http://lauren-whatlaurenlikes.blogspot.com/2011/07/wiaw-and-u2-perfect-mix.html
I love that show! But I have no idea what I’d talk about if I were on it… I’ve eaten too many delicious things in my life! It would probably be something from my favourite restaurant, Blacktree. I once had a hot & cold salmon appetizer there that totally blew my mind.
Great choice on that Sundae! I would talk about some kind of ice cream concoction as well, it’s my favorite treat!
I would have to say a bread pudding recipe I made last year….YUMMY!!! However, I am going to have to modify the recipe now that I’m gluten-free…that’ll be a fun experiment!!
That cashew whipped cream sounds phenomenal!!!!!
I’ve been to New York a number of times but I’ve never eaten there. It. Looks. Incredible. Definitely adding it to the bucket list.
I love that show! Even though I wouldn’t eat most of the things they talked about I was still hooked. And that sundae looks & sounds so good!!
There is a local cupcake place by my house that makes THE most delicious cupcakes in the world, so I’d definitely rave about those! Especially the red velvet!!!
Gahhh I just ate there for the first time also, last week, and almost died and went to heaven! Or maybe I did die, and that was heaven??
My roommate got the mint choco sundae, SO good, I got the trio of chocolate ice creams, it was a win-win situation for all.
The raw lasagna at Pure Food & Wine might just be the “best thing I ever ate”! That place is a-mazing. So much so, that I bought a spiralizer to make my own raw zucchini noodles afterwards!

That dessert looks heavenly!!!
I think the best thing I ever ate would be my PB&CO lunch in NYC! partially due to how wonderful the food was, but more so how great the comany made it!
I love that show!
I’m so jealous that you got to try that sundae! It looks so good! The best thing I ever ate was pizza at this restaurant in Italy. TO.DIE.FOR!
I ate there last April and it was also one of the best meals of my life! I actually had the exact same things as you. the mohito was out of this world! Best mohito ever! The zucchini was amazing and the ice cream sundae…I have no words! I can’t to go back to NYC so I can go back there. It is very expensive, but totally worth it!!!
Hmmm the best thing I ever ate….probably Amarula mousse in Zimbabwe. Have you ever had Amarula? It’s like Baileys, only better. And in mousse it’s ah-maz-ing!! As a side note, I think I went to college with Theodora. I saw her in a picture on another blog and she looks SO familiar. Glad you’re having fun on your trip!
I LOVE that show! It was my favorite show on Fodo Network, but I recently got rid of cable. That is the one show that I really miss!
It would be Pure Food and Wine, for sure. I had a salted caramel tart thing for dessert and it was amazing! But I am SO getting that sunday next time! So glad you got to experience Pure during your stay
Every time I watch that show I think to myself (or aloud) “how in the world do they decide what to choose??” I honestly have NO CLUE what the best thing I’ve ever eaten is but I have an inkling it was topped with a brown sugar crumble – I’m obsessed.
love pure food and wine, we actually went there for the first time with Gabriela
I remember when you guys went there I was super jealous! Isn’t it awesome?
That sundae certainly looks drool-worthy. Cashew whip cream? Sounds amazing.
The best thing I’ve recently ate is vegan mac ‘n cheese I made from scratch. It is so tasty and (in my opinion) better than it’s animal-product counterpart.
the mint sundae is the best!!!!
