day in the life

November 11, 2014

4:17 AM - Alarm goes off to work out. Hah. That’s not happening. Set another alarm for 5:20. Wait.. did my children really sleep all night? Look at monitor. Haven’t moved a muscle. Success!

5:20 AM - Get out of bed, make bed in the dark, hop into the shower.

5:40 AM - Feeling lazy, no need to dry my hair today. Curls it is!

6:00 AM - Finish getting ready and head out to the kitchen. Shoot, I forgot to wash some dishes from the night before. Finish that so my mom won’t kill me when she gets to my house (lol - how funny is that?). Make coffee. Make lunch. My children are still sleeping. What?!

6:15 AM - Sit down on the couch with a few waffles with peanut butter and banana slices. I finally hear Brooklyn moving around her crib. Yes, this is actually a "late start". I look at the monitor and realized Emerson was pulling drawers out from the crib and trying to reach for diapers. Stinker. Go greet my babies and get them set up with their morning milk.

6:25 AM - My mom arrives, so I finish getting ready and I head out the door by 6:45.

7:20 AM - Arrive to school, realize I never made copies for today so I make that happen. Then I settle into grade some papers and chat with some co-workers.

8:15 AM - Teach teach teach.

11:05 AM - Lunch break. Check in with my mom. The girls took a looooong morning nap (almost 2.5 hours). That’s good… until the afternoon. Fingers crossed they take a good afternoon nap for her!

12:05 PM - Teach teach teach! It was an exciting afternoon of action and linking verbs. #grammarnerd

3:05 PM – Read a text from my mom – the girls went down for a nap around 2:15. Lucky her! They always sleep good for their nana. I sit down at my desk to grade some papers, and then I pick up my room before I head out the door.

3:45 PM – Rock out to some T. Swift in the car on the way home. Please tell me you’ve gotten her new album.

4:15 PM – Get home and see Charlie patiently waiting at the gate for me. I play with him for a few minutes until I head in to see my girlies. Aubrey’s over today, so we all hang out until my brother in law comes to get her. My mom sticks around for a few minutes so I can cut up a head of cauliflower that we are having for dinner.

4:45 PM – Play time! Emerson was a little cranky and in a mommy mood, and Brooklyn was pretty focused on building with blocks. I seriously cannot believe how good she is at putting everything together!

photo 1 (21)photo 2 (17) please look past the grainy, dark iphone picture. who else hates that it’s dark out by 4:30 these days!?

5:15 PM – Start on dinner. Realize I don’t have any tomatoes for BLT’s. Shoot. Call John, he says he’ll pick some up on his way home. Shuffle between the kitchen and the living room with Emerson on my leg the entire time. That girl did not want to be away from me today. Yesterday I actually had to wear her in the Ergo which I have not done in MONTHS!

6:00 PM – John’s not home yet, but these two have to eat. They’re having leftover pasta and meatballs from Sunday night. Typically they eat what we do, but BLT’s are a little difficult for 14 month olds. 😉

6:10 PM – John’s home, so we sit down for dinner as well. I made BLT’s and roasted ranch cauliflower. It’s probably the worst possible way for you that you should eat a cauliflower, but it is so so good. All I did was marinate the cauliflower in ranch dressing for a few hours, and I popped it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 30-35 minutes.

We try to eat and chat between Emerson’s crankiness. Brooklyn just rolled with it.

6:30 PM – We clean the girls up, and John takes them to the living room for some play time. I usually clean up after dinner so John can have some time to play with the girls before they go to bed.

6:37 PM – Emerson’s not having it. She keeps coming into the kitchen by her mama, and the only way she’s happy is if I hold her and sing “Summer” from Frozen. We dance, and I inevitably keep bringing her back to her daddy.

6:52 PM – The kitchen is all clean, and it’s time for some girlies to get ready for bed. Tonight isn’t a bath night so all we have to do is get them changed and read them a story.

7:10 PM – In bed! I’m unfortunately left with this bomb that went off in the living room.

Clean the living room up, put away some clean laundry (thanks Mom!), bring some dirty things to the laundry room, and sit down on the couch to relax.

7:35 PM – Start typing this post and my computer goes  crazy and shuts off. Shoot.

7:45 PM – Start writing again.

7:49 PM – Brooklyn is crying. Apparently she just needed to find her pacifier because she was quiet again within a few seconds.

8:15 PM – Change laundry loads and fold a few things.

8:30 PM – Start getting ready for bed. Wash my face, brush my teeth, lay out clothes to work out tomorrow (today). Think about how I need someone to text me every morning at 4:15 CST to get my butt out of bed. I really think that’s the only way it’s going to happen.

8:40 PM – Get into bed, read some blogs, read a book, play some Candy Crush.

9:15 PM – Bed!
