Currently, I am sitting on my couch enjoying the quiet of two babies napping in their cribs while enjoying a few slices of toast with peanut butter and banana. This holiday season proved to be much busier than anticipated, and I am both sad and relieved it is all over.
We had a great, albeit busy, first Christmas with the girls. I feel so blessed to call them my own, and our family did a number on spoiling them with gifts. We are pretty much set on toys and clothes for the next year it seems like. This past week my family went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee to spend the week with my brother in law’s family who graciously hosted us in a cabin in the Smokies. It was beyond beautiful, the perfect mix of busyness and relaxation… in fact, it was exactly what I needed my last week of Winter Break. I loved getting to spend time with my family, especially my mom since she is in fact one of my favorite people. It was also nice to see my brother in law’s mother again – they’re from Savannah, and I always love getting to see her. In true Southern fashion, we were treated as part of their family the entire week. We just got back today, and we drove through the night both ways because it was easier on the girls (and when I say “we”, I really mean “the husband”), so today is a lazy day around the house. I’m hoping to get my Christmas decorations down this weekend before heading back to school at the beginning of next week.
Speaking of school, we might not be going back on Monday. Have you heard about the arctic chill that is going to be sweeping through the Midwest? On Monday our high is –11 and the wind chills are supposed to be in the –40’s. My district, as well as many others, have already put out a disclaimer stating to keep an eye out for an emergency closing for a “cold day”. I certainly wouldn’t mind one more day off!
I’m hoping to be back this upcoming week with a few posts – a 4 month update on my little ladies (yes, seriously.), a review on some bars I tried last month, and a post sharing about an awesome company one of my good friends is a part of. Maybe I’ll throw in a Fun Facts Friday or a What I Ate Wednesday in there as well just for old times’ sake.
Until then friends!

Glad to hear you had a great holiday season! Happy 2014!
So great to hear how things are going and get an update - I’ve missed you! Can’t believe the girls are already 4 months old…so crazy. Love you!
So love seeing you post! I can’t wait to see the upcoming week’s posts…I’m hunkering down here in IN for the snow and cold…we are expected to get 10-12 inches. And per dr
I”m on the couch so lots of tv watching and reading!
Glad to hear all is well, especially with the girls! I don’t know if you have heard, but Gov. Dayton of Minnesota already cancelled school throughout the entire state on Monday! I feel like that is so crazy!
Minus 11 is insane! It’s been 1 degree here in Ireland all day…and being by the sea it feels even colder. Can’t imagine -11! Nice to see you back!!! Happy New Year (and belated Christmas!) Good call on the PB and toast with banana…always!
Welcome back! It’s great to get an update on your life and hear you had a wonderful first Christmas as a family of four. And wow, four months?! They’ve grown so fast.
Fingers crossed you’ll get another day off due to the cold but with hopefully not quite as awfully freezing temperatures. Minus 11 is no joke.
Happy New Year, too!
Glad you had such a great Christmas! But oh man, I do not envy you for your weather! That is just too, too cold.
Wow, you had such a wonderful holiday : ) Chelsey …. so great to have a big family! Love reading about Christmas stories.
Yep …. “the weather” is really, really doing a number on us here. It is soooooo cold. I cannot recall it ever being this awful and totally dangerous. We have been double-insulating our house for two days! Like from the inside. Heavier drapes, and all sorts of ways to keep out cold and drafts. Totally exhausting. Stay inside and keep warm everyone!
I look forward to more posts.
Glad you enjoyed the holidays with your beautiful girls! My family lives in Wisconsin and the temps with windchill are supposed to be -75*!! Crazy!!! Considering I was wearing shorts the past couple days in Dallas, I’m pretty grateful I live here now haha. Stay safe and warm!
A lot has been cancelled here in Milwaukee. Im worried my car wont start…..
I’m hoping to be called off tomorrow too! I think our district policy is if the windchill is -10 then we are off so I have high hopes for tomorrow!
Can’t wait for the girls’ 4 month update!
I took all my Christmas decorations down yesterday and it felt great! Until next year….
I’m glad you had such a great Christmas! Going away to a cabin with family sounds like a perfect way to spend it.
Stay warm tomorrow!
It was fun to see there was a new post from you in my Bloglovin’ feed!
I live in MN and the governor actually stated that all MN schools must have the day off tomorrow (Monday) because of the crazy cold weather that’s coming. Negative 40/50 with the wind? scary!
I just discovered your blog - I have been blogging for about a year now and I love the first few I’ve read on yours. I live in Milwaukee and it’s supposed to -17 tomorrow, windchills of -50+. Thinking I’ll be working from home
Can’t wait to see your next post!
